Eligibility for Obtaining a Class 1 License

Starting March 1, 2019, new Class 1 drivers in Alberta must undergo Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) as per Alberta Transportation regulations to obtain their full commercial driver’s license.

This mandatory training initiative aims to cultivate safer, more proficient drivers within the trucking industry. It encompasses a government-prescribed number of hours for in-class, in-yard, and in-vehicle modules, all of which follow standardized curriculums across licensed Alberta driver training schools.
