Class 1 Learning Pathway

1. Online Entry Program

The first step to obtaining your Class 1 license is to register and pay for the Class 1 Online Entry Program through Alberta.ca. Once you have completed the online entry program, you become eligible to write the Class 1 knowledge exam at any Alberta Registry office.

While North Peace Commercial Driving Academy does not manage the online Entry Program, we understand that some students might need a little extra help. If you require access to technology or learning support to complete the online portion, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'll do our best to assist you.

Once you've completed both the Entry Program and passed your knowledge exam, you'll be ready to enroll in the Core Learning Program at North Peace Commercial Driving Academy.

2. Core Learning Program at the Driving Academy

The North peace Commercial Driving Academy offers Alberta's Class 1 Core Learning Program. This portion of the program is designed to build your driving competence with 60 hours of comprehensive in-yard and in-cab training. You'll also complete an 8-hour Air Brake (Q endorsement) training course.

Ready to get started? Register today by calling our Program Coordinator at 780-624-3601 or by filling out our contact form.

Completing Your Road Test

Once you successfully complete the Core Learning Program, you'll be eligible to take your Class 1 road test with a provincial examiner. Don't worry about the logistics—North Peace Commercial Driving Academy can book this test for you and you can use a Driving Academy truck for your test. This service is offered for an additional fee.

Becoming a Licensed Class 1 Driver

After successfully passing your road test, you'll hold a Class 1 license with provincial restrictions. This license allows you to gain valuable on-the-job driving experience within Alberta.

3. Optional Competence Building Program

To remove the provincial restrictions from your Class 1 license, you'll need to complete the Competence Building Program with the North Peace Commercial Driving Academy. This program provides 17 to 25 additional hours of one-on-one driving instruction, fully customized to your specific needs.

Once you successfully demonstrate improved skills, the restriction will be removed from your Class 1 Driver's License. This will give you the freedom to drive across North America.
